Starting from September 1, 2025, Georgia introduces a new special type of residence permit — IT Residence Permit for specialists in the field of information technology.
This government initiative is aimed at attracting highly qualified professionals and supporting the development of the IT sector in the country. Now IT specialists, their families, and representatives of international IT companies will be able to obtain a legal basis for long-term residence and work in Georgia
The price includes:
notarized translation of passport into Georgian, obtaining extracts and certificates from the registry, preparation, analysis and submission of documents, support in the House of Justice, tracking additional requests for documents
Required documents:
For an employee in the IT sector:
- passport, Georgian phone number, employment contract, confirmation of qualifications and experience in IT for at least 2 years (diplomas, certificates, contracts, invoices), confirmation of income over $25,000 per year (certificate from work, bank statements), salary statement
For an individual entrepreneur (small business):
- passport, Georgian phone number, certificate of small business status, confirmation of qualifications and experience in IT for at least 2 years (diplomas, certificates, contracts, invoices), confirmation of income over $25,000 per year (tax certificate, bank statements)
All documents are submitted in Georgian or with a notarized translation.
Documents from other countries must be legalized or apostilled.
Work experience and income can be confirmed by both Georgian and foreign documents.

Who is eligible for an IT residence permit in Georgia:
- Employees of Georgian IT companies, officially registered with the Ministry of Labor as labor migrants.
- Individual entrepreneurs with small business status, if they are engaged in IT activities defined by the government.
- Managers and authorized representatives of international IT companies operating in Georgia.
- Family members (spouse, minor children) of all the above categories.
Mandatory stay in the country for at least 183 days per year. The time of consideration is counted only in the case of an official appeal regarding Georgia (confirmed by official documents)

The law regulating the issuance of IT Residence Permits comes into force on September 1, 2025. Applications can be submitted starting from this date.
The initial permit is issued for 3 years. It can then be renewed every 3 years, but the total duration cannot exceed 12 years.
You must confirm an annual income of at least 25,000 USD (or the equivalent in GEL). The income must be received in at least two payments with an interval of no less than 30 days.
You must prove at least 2 years of work experience in IT. The experience may be gained in Georgia or abroad. To confirm work experience, you can provide current or expired contracts, recommendation letters, educational documents, and other records that reliably verify your IT background.
The actual time spent on the territory of Georgia. Additionally, time spent abroad for medical treatment (confirmed by medical documents) is also counted. The Ministry of Internal Affairs monitors the actual period of stay in Georgia automatically.
Yes, foreign documents must be apostilled or legalized, unless otherwise provided by international treaties. In some cases, electronic verification of authenticity is allowed without the original. However, when submitting foreign documents confirming work experience or income, a notarized translation of these documents into Georgian is mandatory.

Yes. For the IT residence permit, the general rule “no later than 40 days” does not apply. You can apply for an extension no earlier than 90 days before the current permit expires.
After receiving approval for the Georgian residence permit, you must apply for a bina-droba (ID card) within 30 days and register your place of residence at any address in Georgia.
